Welcome
No counter, no fanfare. They take your coat the way one takes a hand, and offer a tea that already knows your journey. The conversation is brief, the attention long. The gesture precedes the word — a detail that says, from the first minute, what the house aims for.
Place
Smoked larch wood, Savoie stone, raw linen. The 25-metre pool floats beneath a vault that echoes a Japanese kura — a quiet bridge between the Alps and Honshū. The volumes are low, the windows tall; the snow-light enters above the water and stays there, at shoulder height.
Treatments
Aman's rituals revolve around the Tsubo, Chinese meridian points worked with slow pressure. The Snow Ritual — an Alpine salt scrub followed by a warm oil wrap — is among the truest I have known. The practitioner does not speak during the long passages, and that was exactly what was needed.
Journey
Hammam, sauna, swimming pool, yoga room beneath timber beams. The sequence unfolds without showy signage: you follow your body, the staff opens the doors at the right moment. The benches are warm when you come in from the cold; a minor detail, a major effect.
Art of living
You drink hojicha tea on your return, lying on a futon facing the firs. Silence is not a policy here — it is a material. The Nama restaurant serves uncompromising Japanese cuisine at night; the sommelier knows your name by the second dinner. There is no better in the genre.
